The Southland got a drenching Wednesday morning, courtesy of a low-pressure system off the coast.  (Check radar.)

"The heaviest part is mostly over," National Weather Service weather specialist Bonnie Bartling said shortly before 8:30 a.m., although seaside communities were still being doused by a band of rain expected to leave the region around 11 a.m. and produce between a tenth and a quarter of an inch of rain.

A second band of rain was expected around mid-day, which likely will make for a showery afternoon, she said.

Rainfall totals resulting from the afternoon showers were expected to be "on the light side," according to an NWS advisory.

Bartling said the Southland would be hit by a "weak system" Thursday night into Friday morning, after which dry weather was in the forecast.

Highs on Wednesday and over the coming days will be in the 60s in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
