Just a few short months ago, Ventura County was hit by two devastating tragedies. The first was the horrific shooting of twelve community members at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks on the evening of November 7. Less than 24 hours later, the community was struck by a second tragedy: the Hill & Woolsey Fires which ravaged our wildlands and destroyed homes and businesses.
Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF) leapt into action to support a community in need. By the morning after each of these tragedies took place, the organization began diligently working with numerous community partners to set up two funds to support the victims, families, law enforcement community, and organizations providing first and second line support to both of these tragedies. VCCF has raised $4.8 million in funding for the victim relief and fire recovery.
Contributions to the Hill/Woolsey Fire Sudden and Urgent Needs Effort support the immediate needs of community nonprofit organizations serving those affected by the Ventura County wildfires.
Contributions to the Conejo Valley Victims Fund are being used to assist the families of the victims who were killed at Borderline Bar & Grill, the victims who were physically injured, and those present inside the establishment that tragic night.
Numerous community events are also being hosted in support of the Conejo Valley Victims Fund, including the ‘Borderline Strong’ benefit concert featuring Trace Adkins, Cassadee Pope, Jimmie Allen and other musical guests on February 11.
