Special sips like the Spirit of the Witch at Wolf Crane? They're just one eerie element during this new, October-long Little Tokyo happening.

Finding a street corner that's become a squash-laden wonderland? Or locating a coffeeshop that's been fully and fragrantly taken over by a line-up of luscious apple caramel beverages?

That isn't too difficult when September shakes off its breezy summer wear and dons its official October outfit. But coming across a whole neighborhood that's devoted itself to the autumnal pleasures, for a good chunk of the tenth month, is another enchanting matter, and far more difficult.

Unless you happen to call upon a certain neighborhood in the 1st and Central neck of downtown during October 2017. That's when the inaugural Haunted Little Tokyo launches with a line-up of gleeful goings-on sure to haunt (and happify) both grown-ups and younger visitors alike.

On the schedule, which stretches from Friday, Oct. 13 through to Saturday, Oct. 28?

Pop-up weekend pumpkin patches hosted by famous Tanaka Farms of Irvine, Studio Ghibli screenings (for sure, "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Kiki's Delivery Service" will be shown), and a clutch of "classic Japanese horror flicks" made for adults.

The edibles shall be eerie, too, and the sips come Saturday, Oct. 28. That's the night of the big block party, so keep an eyeball out for special drinks and special deals as you join the bar crawl.

A parade and costume dress-up fun are also part of the last-Saturday-before-Halloween high jinks in Little Tokyo.

You might encounter another neighborhood going all-in on the spirit and art and culture and cuisine of the ghosty holiday, or you might find your Halloween here and there as you go through the month.

For a fuller expression of frightful fun, though, check out the pumpkins, screenings, sips, and bar crawls of the brand-new Haunted Little Tokyo.
