12/23: A Creole Christmas

The sounds of New Orleans for the season.

A CREOLE CHRISTMAS: It is just about this time of year that we're ready to move into Walt Disney Concert Hall. No one would mind, right? After all, the holiday shows are happening daily, and what shows they are. Up tonight: Preservation Hall Jazz Band brasses it up with a merry Creole Christmas. Are you sensing the happy trumpeting now? Joyful. 8PM

"THE NUTCRACKER": The Moscow Ballet is staging "The Great Russian Nutcracker" in La Mirada tonight; great dancing toys but that thing sells out quickly. There is a waitlist. And the Long Beach Ballet company presents its lovely take on the Christmastime classic at Pasadena Civic Auditorium. We like the cape the Councilor Drosselmeyer always wears. Want it.

ALSO ON STAGE TONIGHT: Lady Gaga finishes her three-night run at the Nokia Theatre; "Mary Poppins" is dancing on the rooftops at the Ahmanson; "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas -- The Musical" scowls through its final days at the Pantages.
