8/14-16: Sake Fest, Nisei Week…

LOS ANGELES SAKE FESTIVAL: Around 100-plus-ish sakes are on the pour at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel on Saturday, August 15th. Karaoke is also on the sip-away roster. You might not leave the libation-lovely event being an expert on the famous bev, but you'll get to know a few labels you like. And that's nice. 8-11PM

NISEI WEEK JAPANESE FESTIVAL: This Little Tokyo-centered celebration is truly a week -- or just over a week -- but the first weekend is so packed we had to make early mention. There's the Grand Parade, karate show, an anime festival, appearances by the queen and her court, and a sumo demonstration. Nisei Week begins Saturday, August 15th; eye the full roster.

DEPECHE MODE: "People Are People," and people who like these true icons of electronic music still really adore their band some three decades on. Didn't thousands show for the free Hollywood Boulevard show back in April? Righteous. The lads are headed for Hollywood Bowl for a two-night gig, beginning Sunday, August 16th.

LOS ANGELES TAP FESTIVAL: One of big straight-from-the-stage stories of the summer was the move of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy from Culver City to Crenshaw Plaza. The venerable school is now presenting the multi-day LA Tap Fest, which includes the All-Star Concert on Saturday, August 15th. Note the show takes place at Central LA New High School.

"SHAUN OF THE DEAD": Just three more movies to go for the Hollywood Outdoor Cinema summer series. Up on Saturday, August 15th: that winky, groany ghoul fest that helped Simon Pegg shoot to stardom stateside. There's a zombie walk ahead of the film, so be sure to perfect your best scary shamble. Zommmmbies...
