8/26: Chris Isaak, Surprise Us

CHRIS ISAAK: Dear Chris Isaak. What don't you do? We're just marveling at all the interesting tasks you set upon. Showing up at award shows with a fluffy dog under your arm. Lending handsome broodiness to various films. Working with David Lynch. Working with Showtime. Supporting your fine hometown of Stockton. Oh, and belting out vintage-sounding songs of love. You're at The Greek Theatre tonight. What's next? Surprise us.

"NASHVILLE": Speaking of croon-y, vintage-sounding songs and film and the music business. The sprawling Altman classic (three words that probably frequently find their way together) is screening at ArcLight Hollywood as part of the AFI Series. If you're in the song-making industry, which many of our friends and neighbors are in these parts, see it. It's star-studded. It's from 1975. You'll want the clothes, and you may want to add some country spice to your strumming/life.

CLINTON KELLY: The TLC star and "What Not to Wear" host is reading/signing/chitchatting at Book Soup. Name of his new book just ahead. Take an extra big breath. Prepare. It's long 'un. Here goes: "Freakin' Fabulous: How to Dress, Speak, Behave, Eat, Drink, Entertain, Decorate, and Generally Be Better Than Everyone Else." There are like four of those things we need to learn how to do better. Especially behave. Mr. Kelly, direct us.
