A Hill, the Hollyhock, Happiness

A Barnsdall summer tradition returns.

Sometimes LA has to deal with a bit of a flat reputation.

Oh, we're not saying that people think it is a boring city; au contraire. Los Angeles is many things but one would never dare call it dull. But when we say "flat" there? We mean it has never gained a big rep for individual hills and peaks like our bay-close neighbor to the north.

But one exception is the hill that Barnsdall Art Park and the Hollyhock House call home. Sweet and perfectly sized Olive Hill juts up just enough to provide beautiful views of Los Feliz and the observatory and Hollywood.

And drinking a glass of wine atop that hill on a balmy Friday evening in summertime? It's is definitely a local favorite, and a tradition many people look forward to throughout the year.

Those Friday night wine tastings are about to start again, and just in time for the traditional summer season. Night one is Friday, May 25.

Silverlake Wine is again pouring and there will be a quartet of vinos to sample. A ticket is $25 and the money helps out various projects at Barnsdall.

So, are you feeing it? The hill? Those long vistas? Admiring the sunset? Being above the traffic? The observatory in the distance, and the Hollywood Sign seen through your glass of chardonnay? Are you feeling summer? We know we are.
