Angeles Crest Highway Re-Opens

Roadway was closed since Aug. 26

CalTrans urged drivers to use caution as the Angeles Crest Highway from La Canada Flintridge to Wrightwood was open for the first time since the Station Fire forced its closure on Aug. 26.

High winds caused overnight rockslides that covered portions of the roadway, raising concerns the opening may be delayed. By 6:30 am though, officials were able to remove much of the debris and open it to traffic, California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said.

Officials urged drivers to be cautious as workers continued to clear the remaining problems on a 12-mile stretch of the highway, according to the LA Times.

Caltrans has been working with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, U.S. Forest Service, California Highway Patrol, and several other entities to ensure that the repairs to the Angeles Crest Highway are safe and seamless," Dan Freeman of Caltrans said.

"Caltrans road crews and contractors have worked day and night to repair the damages caused by the Station Fire," Freeman said in a statement.
