The Natural History Museum's Sustainable Sundays program has many good and educational and entertaining goals.
But here's one that we especially applaud. The museum says the program was developed "...to help Angelenos navigate the copious 'green' information circulating in contemporary media..."
What an excellent idea. Also excellent: Planning a full day of family-nice activities that introduce kids to the wonders of local flora and fauna. The next Sustainable Sunday -- which is scheduled for Sunday, May 30 -- will include animal viewing (live, we should add), stories, gallery looking-about-ing, and dinosaur encounters.
Oh, and habitat building, too. The theme of the May 30 day is "Local Biodiversity and Habitats from the Insects of Los Angeles to the Southland's Sea Creatures." Pay the regular admission to the museum and join in Sustainable Sundays at no extra cost.
There will be reps from various orgs, ready to chat up the grown-ups. Look for tables from the museum's Marine Biodiversity Center, the LA Zoo, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
You and your brood should go if a) you went to the museum's recent Bug Fair and loved it and/or b) you're looking for an educational outing that is activity-oriented and/or c) you want some guidance and clarity in 'green' topics.
Do we even need to add "d) or all of the above"? This should probably be an "all of the above" situation for all of us.
