Rachael Narins and Suzanne Griswold, who call themselves Chicks with Knives, long ago walked down the path lined with “sustainable, organic, local and ethical” produce. The duo makes different pickles for their monthly dinner parties and gradually generated a big demand. Given that, on September 12 from 10 AM – 1 PM, the CWK are hosting a “Perishable” pickle party.
“We LOVE pickling and people have come to expect it of us,” says Narins. “Our guests always love it too and ask if we sell them ever, so this is their chance - and everyone else who's never been to a dinner - to take some home. We're also doing a little pickling demo just as an added bonus. (We offer pickling classes sometimes and they're wildly popular.) And we'll have appetizers! Yay!”
They’re charging $6 for small portions and $8 for large, including cauliflower/mustard, curried Asian pear, Southern-style heirloom melon and bacon jam (“not a pickle, but oh-so-good).” They’re also selling a pickling spice mix for $2 and home pickling kits for $20.
According to the “Perishable” website,“All of the pickles are preserved, but not hot-processed or canned. Therefore, they are not shelf stable and should be refrigerated and consumed within two weeks.” Thus the name, Perishable.
To attend “Perishable,” the Chicks with Knives are charging $5 per adult and $1 for children under 12. The location is unknown, for now, and payment is cash only. [The Feast]
