Construction Watch: East Los Angeles High School #1

Following last week's passage of Prop. Q--the $7 billion bond measure that'll build and renovate even more LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) schools-- here's your look at LA East Los Angeles High School #1, which, as previously mentioned, will be the first new high school in East Los Angeles in 85 years when it opens in fall 2009. While it's debatable whether that new funding is needed, more via this February 2007 press release (things may have changed since then) about the school: "The LAUSD also worked with Project Restore, a non-profit organization dedicated to the historic restoration and revitalization of City of Los Angeles-owned historic facilities, to make First Street more pedestrian friendly by broadening the sidewalks in alignment with the First Street Bridge widening project." The release also talks about making a park out a section of Utah Street.
