Foodie Bits for a Friday

CHEESE IT: Lovely, silky, creamy cheese, and other delights of the French table, are the order of the day at Picnic Des Chefs, which is organized by Club Culinaire. Pates, breads, legs of lambs, and cheeses -- we mentioned cheeses, oui? -- are also on the menu. Monticello/Old Lodge in Elysian Park (near Dodger Stadium), Sunday, June 7, 11:30AM-4:30PM

CHILI COOKOFF: Take a step. Dig spoon into bowl. Bite. Take another step. Dig spoon into bowl. Etc. We like that the Tustin Chili Cookoff is part of a larger street fair. It means we have to get a bit of exercise as we eat the day away. Take a step... Sunday, June 7

TWO WINE FESTIVALS: And they're as big as a 20-ounce goblet. The first, the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival, runs June 5-7, and has tons of take-to-the-air cachet. The in-town to-do, LA WineFest, is at historic Raleigh Studios on June 6-7; look for wineries from around the West coast, and beer and sake, too.

NATIONAL DONUT DAY: It's celebrated on the first Friday in June. Translation: bring on the frosting/sprinkles/jelly fillings. We'd honor the day with a delicious Huell (chocolate/peanut butter) from Stan's in Westwood, but then we already had one this week. Oh, who cares, really? Sometimes you just have to donut up and donut up big.
