Marco Aguilar, 23, Nicholas Cahill, 20, Jellsey Clinton, 25, and Daniel Smith, 20 -- all of Riverside -- died at the scene of the crash, which happened about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday at 56th Street and Van Buren Boulevard.

Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Brian Gutierrez said that a man, whose name has not been released, was at the wheel of a vehicle going north on Van Buren when he tried to make a sharp turn to head west on 56th and lost control.

"The driver failed to negotiate the turn and traveled into southbound lanes on Van Buren ... (where he) collided with the vehicle occupied by the four individuals," Gutierrez said.

The speed at which the suspect was traveling remains under investigation.

Two other motorists going south on Van Buren were hit by debris from the crash as it happened, but they managed to avoid impact, according to the sergeant.

The surviving driver was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he is recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information helpful to investigators was asked to contact the sheriff's Jurupa Valley station at (951) 955-2600.
