It's a funny thing with a lot of advertisements about now.
Look. We want to be falling into a big pile of red leaves. We want to be wearing plaid skirts and light sweaters. But this is LA, and it is early September, so the likelihood that the temperature will begin with a 9 -- or even a 1 -- is extremely high. Everything tends to be extremely high temperature-wise about now.
Which makes the serving of free frozen treats a spot-on thing to do (we know, it seems June-y, but then our June here is rather damp and cool. Oh LA. Bucking trends, etc.)
The Cooking Channel is celebrating its first anniversary with a cross-country road trip. And at every stop? Eating. Not a shocker. But free eating; they're dishing up cold sweetness.
The LA stop will be on Thursday, Sept. 8 at Farmers Market. Bennett's Ice Cream is lending a scooper, and "Extra Virgin" hosts Debi Mazar and Gabriele Corcos will be presiding. Time is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., which just about covers the hottest bits of the day.
We don't know if Bennett's own Fancy Nancy flavor will be on the scoop, but if you haven't tried, we recommend. But of course you've tried. You grew up with Bennett's, we're guessing? Or at least visited with grandpa on a few occasions?
Ah. Even Fancy Nancy thoughts are cooling us down. Okay, high temperatures of early September. Get it over with. We're ready to fall into a pile of leaves.
