WHILE THERE ARE MANY PATHS... to take after you've downed a fair-style funnel cake, and after you ate a taco with all the trimmings, and after you went on the Ferris wheel twice, you'll likely want to seek out an activity that is both relaxing and entertaining. A county fair can, in fact, present many paths and ways to spend a day, from eating to game-playing to the midway, but only a few special days at a fair conclude with a concert. Such is the long-standing tradition at the Los Angeles County Fair, which has presented live musical acts throughout its nearly century-long history on a few special select nights.
BUT PLANNING FOR THE SHOWS... you want to see isn't just a matter of luck; you'll need to decide in advance when to be at the Pomona party, and how you'll spend the hours leading up to the concert. (We're just assuming you'll want to arrive early, to get in all of the tasting of wines and admiring of quilts and cooing over piglets you'll want to do.) And that deciding begins now, for the 2016 fair, for the concert schedule for the End of Summer Concert Series has been announced.
BLONDIE, is on the Sept. 2-25 roster, along with The Smithereens, and Camila is, too (the line-up opener on Sept. 4). The Isley Brothers featuring Ronald & Ernest Isley, and The O'Jays, War with Tierra & Malo, Lee Brice with special guest Jon Pardi, Los Temerarios, and Billy Currington with special guest LeAnn Rimes round it all out. Dates and so forth? They'll start popping up at the LA Fair's online HQ. Best start plotting whether you'll eat a funnel cake first, then ride the Ferris wheel, then go to your show. A big fair day is all about optimal scheduling, after all. And piglets, too. Always piglets.
