Slain Wrong-Way Motorist Identified

RUBIDOUX, Calif. -- A motorist whose pickup truck became disabled as he drove the wrong way on the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway early Monday was fatally struck by a big rig as he tried to walk across lanes, authorities said.

The crash near La Rue Street in the Rubidoux area was reported about 2:20 a.m., according to the Riverside County coroner's office.

Guillermo Pasillas Perez, 31, of Riverside, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado west on the eastbound side of the freeway when the truck became disabled in the carpool lane, said California Highway Patrol Officer Sylvia Mosley.

The victim left the truck and was walking across the freeway when he was struck by an 18-wheeler, whose driver swerved in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid the victim, Mosley said.
