NBCU Black Employee Network Hosts Students

On September 25, the NBCUiversal Black Employee Network (BEN) community outreach committee hosted a mentoring day for 26 students from Crenshaw High School.

BEN member Steve Williams-VP Post Production Operations, along with Kirsten Smith, Senior Director of Feature Film Post, and Kim Jimenez, Director of Feature Film Sound Editorial revealed what it takes to create sound for films and television. They showed clips from Universal Picture's “Fast and Furious 7” and shared what they did to create the sounds in the film. Each panelist discussed their career path and what it takes to get into their line of work.

Following the panel discussion, the students experienced an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Universal Studios back lot, including Sound Stage 36, where “Truth Be Told” is filming, the Property house, Costume house, European Square and other streets on the back lot.

Several NBCUniversal BEN members took time to have lunch with the students for more one-on-one time.  The students are extremely bright and everyone enjoyed the discussions and rare opportunity for an insider's look at the entertainment industry.  The students also walked away with custom Universal Studios backpacks as a gift for participating.
