NY Fair Explores Hollywood by Night

The Hester Street Fair throws a Hollywood Night Market.

It was really super sweet of New York City to lend its old chum Los Angeles one of its best street markets for the summer.

And, nope, we're not implying that organizers just picked up the Hester Street Fair from its long-time Manhattan home and placed it in Tinseltown, leaving a Hester Street Fair-sized hole where it once was. It's still on every Saturday in NYC.

But Hester's quirky quartet of Hollywood cameos this summer has been quite the talk. Not only are each of the Hester Street Markets free to attend, but they each have a different vibe. Next up? The Hollywood Night Market on Saturday, July 7.

Now the funny thing about the Hester Hollywood Night Market is that it starts at 2 p.m., which is distinctly un-night-like. But it does roll right through 10 p.m., meaning you'll get to walk the stalls in the evening. Nice. A craft beer garden and some 120 vendors are also part of the magic. Yeah, we said magic; night markets are standard the world over, so any time we get them here, we're stoked.

There will be two more Hester Street Fairs around these parts before it makes the trek back east: An indie crafts market on Aug. 18 and a music-themed gathering on Aug. 25. Calendars marked? Swell.

We're already feeling sad it has to go. Surely we have the weather to have a year-round Hester here? New York, do you want to talk about it? Meet for scones and discuss? We don't want to borrow or take from you, but we are kind of keen to share. But NY and LA have been doing that in lots of ways over the decades, right?

One of our fave couples, actually, NY + LA.
