Rose Queen Breakfast

Gather to fete the Rose Queen, her court, and their moms.

If you're a fan of the Rose Parade, the Rose Queen and her Royal Court, long-standing tradition, moms, Pasadena, breakfast, and/or all of the above, you should definitely make plans to join the Jaycees on Friday, Nov. 12 for the Queen's Breakfast.

We're going to assume that, like most people, you adore all of those things, and the theme of "moms" is especially close to your heart. For while the traditional Queen's Breakfast, which is having its 72nd outing this year, is indeed about raising a glass of frosty orange juice to the Tournament of Roses queen and her court, it is about paying tribute to the queen's and the court members' mothers, too.

"It's all about the moms," says Jaycees organizer Lindsay Rees, who says that grandmothers also are in attendance at the breakfast. The queen and each member of the court will say a few words about what their mother and family means to them.

This is nice. For while the waving-from-a-float part of being queen gets a lot of play in the news, family and tradition and local roots make up much of the mystique and charm of this rosiest time of the year.

A breakfast ticket is $55. Ms. Rees says they will be available at the door of the Pasadena Convention Center on Nov. 12, but the better plan is to get in touch with her at the Jaycees at 626-792-5146.
