Santa Monica Weekend: Earth Fair and Reading Festival

SANTA MONICA FESTIVAL: Multiple stages with a ton of music and dance acts, multiple vendors selling be-nice-to-the-planet goodies, plenty of workshops with a focus on how to re-purpose cast-aside items into new and helpful things. We'd describe this eco fair as venerable -- it has been around for nearly two decades -- and wide of mind on topics of recycling, reusing, and being a more thoughtful citizen. The tag line has long been "Revel With a Cause" and we think that completely works. Saturday, May 9, 11AM-6PM. Clover Park in Santa Monica.

RAISING READERS: After swinging by the Santa Monica Festival, we recommend a stop at nearby Santa Monica College for this book bash that's aimed at sharing the joys of the page with smaller tots. It's free, there are some things to keep kidlets moving and happy and not in "I'm bored" mode; plus, books. Lots and lots of books. We're thinking of getting those forms back in the school that let us pick out books to order, and the thrill. That thrill will probably be palpable on Saturday, May 9 at this literary fest. Santa Monica College, Noon-4PM. Free.
