Weekend: LACMA Stays Up Late

Muse 'til Midnight keeps the music and good times flowing.

MUSE 'TIL MIDNIGHT: The concept of lingering at a museum after hours has inspired movies and books. But when when a museum stays open late in real life? Well, the exhibits don't come to life, but music, and complimentary beer and wine, and ongoing performances help keep things plenty lively. Muse is a group of young art lovers, forty dollars is the admission, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is the place. Saturday, Sept. 10

"THE CLONE WARS" DAY: Did you make the LA Zoo's "Star Wars" Day a couple of weeks back? Did you wear your Leia braids? Did you love the idea of celebrating a favorite movie and being able to see some nature, too? Good, good. Bet you'll be at The Aquarium of the Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 10. The spotlight'll be on "The Clone Wars," and kids can show in costume. We want to see a squid wearing his best Skywalker get-up.

ALPINE VILLAGE OKTOBERFEST OPENS: Huntington Beach was out the door with its annual Oktoberfest on Labor Day Weekend. Next up on the oompahing roster? The Tyrolean Torrance landmark. All the traditional touches are ahead, including those famous stein-holding contests. We'd go just to watch those. Opening day is Friday, Sept. 9. It'll run Fridays through Sundays through Oct. 23.

LA BBQ FESTIVAL: This one has a lot going for it -- it is a three-dayer, which is nice, and Petty Cash is playing, which is nice, if you like Tom Petty, and if you like Johnny Cash, which everyone does -- but the setting and the supping is key. The setting? Santa Monica Pier. The supping? It's in the name. The only question is do you ride the Ferris wheel pre- or post-ribs? Or both? Friday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 11

THIS WEEKEND AT THE FAIR... En Vogue, Salt-N-Pepa, One Republic, and Gretchen Wilson are some of the big shows (check dates and times). And KaraokeFest sings on Saturday, Sept. 10. The fair's on Wednesdays through Sundays through Oct. 2.
