A woman who pleaded no contest in the May 2014 beating death of her mother in a Lakewood apartment was insane at the time of the crime, a judge ruled Wednesday.
Superior Court Judge Debra Cole-Hall -- who reviewed psychiatric and mental health reports involving Angie Diamond -- ordered the 37-year-old Los Angeles woman to be sent to a state hospital, according to Paul Eakins of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Diamond pleaded no contest Oct. 3 to first-degree murder and admitted using a hammer in the May 25, 2014, killing of her 57-year-old mother, Margaret Rion.
Another family member found the victim's body in her apartment in the 4100 block of Maybank Avenue two days later, and Diamond was arrested the following day.
Diamond told detectives she killed her mother after an argument, according to sheriff's officials.
