The crash was believed the result of a hit and run. Authorities are attempting to determined whether the driver of the Ford Fusion struck another car before slamming into a freeway wall.
The driver of the other car was at the scene when officers arrived.
Lanes also were closed on the southbound 101 Freeway for a crash near Highland Avenue and another collision in downtown LA near Grand Avenue.
