Barricaded Gunman in Custody After Holding Father Hostage in South LA

A gunman who held his father hostage was taken into custody after a standoff with deputies that forced the evacuation of nearby homes in South Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies responded to the home in the 1300 block of W. 109th Place about 5:30 p.m. after the mother called 911 about a domestic dispute.

When deputies arrived, a man in his 20s was holding his father at gunpoint and refused to come out of the home, officials said. The mother managed to escape and was taken to safety.

The gunman released the father before he was taken into custody, officials said.

Officials urged the public to stay away from the area of West 109th Place, West 109th Street and West 110th Street, between Normandie and Vermont avenues during the barricade.
