More Money May Be Coming for California's Unemployed

California lawmakers appear to be on the verge of passing a bill, that would give the unemployed 5 more months of checks.

According to The Sacramento Bee, the Assembly is set to take up the issue again this week.  Last week it failed, by just one vote.

Right now you can collect 59-weeks of pay.  But passage of the new bill would mean the average out-of-work person would get about $6,000 in additional benefits.  The weekly checks range from %65 to $475, based on previous income earned.

The money would come from the federal stimulus package.  California's unemployment rate is currently one of the highest in the nation, at 10.5%.
