Crash Near San Gabriel Dam Kills 1, Sparks Brush Fire

One person was killed when a vehicle crashed over the side of a road near the San Gabriel Reservoir Monday afternoon, sparking a fire that quickly scorched three acres of brush.

The crash was reported about 5:20 p.m. near mile marker 23 of San Gabriel Canyon Road in Angeles National Forest about five miles outside the Azusa city limits, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which responded to the location.

The vehicle was reported to have gone 100 feet over the side of the road, a county fire department dispatcher said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the dispatcher, who said the fire was held to about three acres burned.

The road was closed at mile marker 18, the sheriff's department reported.
