‘Luckiest Kid': Boy Suffers Minor Injuries When Car Slams Into House

Grandparents found their 4-year-old grandson pinned under the wheel of a car in his bedroom

Police were searching for the driver of a car that crashed into a house early Thursday morning in Whittier and injured a child, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 12:17 a.m. in the 12000 block of Ramsey Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A 4-year-old boy was hurt and suffered minor injuries. The child was transported to a hospital after he was trapped under a wheel of the vehicle, family members said.

"The whole car was over the whole bed," said grandfather David Mazon. "If he was in any other place than in the corner here against the wall, it would probably be a different story than just cuts and bruises. He's really the luckiest kid to be alive."

Workers removed the car from the room, leaving behind a large hole in Armando De La Cruz's bedroom. The Nissan's red hood was on the bedroom floor with other debris.

Authorities said the house had nine occupants inside when the crash occurred. No other injuries were reported.

The driver fled from the scene of the crash on foot and authorities set up a perimeter to search for the driver.

Building inspectors were called to the house to check the integrity of the structure.
