Authorities were spread across two crimes scenes as they searched for the person who shot and killed a 3-year-old in Compton on Saturday evening.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a shooting call around 7:45 p.m. on the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard. Gunfire erupted after two men were arguing in a business parking lot near West Alondra Boulevard and McKinley Avenue.
Sheriff's deputies say one of the men got into a car driven by his girlfriend when he was fired at, but instead of hitting the man, the bullet struck the toddler. The boy's mother drove him to the parking lot of the Lucky Star Cafe in Carson, according to multiple reports, where customers called 911.
The victim was rushed to Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where he later died.
The suspect is described only as a black male driving a dark-colored sedan. He was last seen driving westbound on Alondra Boulevard.
Investigators identified the suspect Sunday afternoon. They're currently in communication with the family and his attorney to facilitate his surrender.
