Corona del Mar State Beach reopened Wednesday morning following a possible shark attack over the weekend, officials said.

The attack prompted authorities to clear the ocean water of swimmers from the Balboa Pier south to Crystal Cove State Beach. Lifeguards reopened the beach from the Wedge to Balboa Pier Tuesday.

Maria Korcs-Maros, a 52-year-old triathlete and mother of three, was training about 4 p.m. Sunday 1.5 miles out to sea for an upcoming triathlon event when she was bitten.

She suffered significant wounds on the right side of her body that stretched from her shoulder to her pelvic area, doctors said Tuesday. She will be hospitalized for at least another week.
