Pursuit Driver Killed After Crashing Into Hydrant, Deputy's Vehicle

A man wanted in connection with a burglary was fatally injured after crashing into a hydrant and patrol vehicle at the end of a pursuit in Long Beach.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday at Long Beach Boulevard and Victoria Street, just west of the 710 Freeway, the sheriff's department reported. Long Beach Boulevard was closed in the area for the investigation.

Authorities say the deceased was a part of a team of burglars.

One after another, people who said they were family members went past the crime scene tape, only to be held back by officers and deputies. At one point, an officer used a stun gun to take a man down.

Authorities said the pursuit began before 6 a.m. with LAPD units chasing suspected burglars who had broken into a business in Bellflower.

Two of the distraught family members were arrested for resisting and obstructing officers.

The identity of the man killed was not released by LAPD.
