Family Pleads for Help From Public After Man Found Dead on Irvine Bike Path

A family was pleading for witnesses to come forward Wednesday after an avid cyclist was found dead on a bike path in Orange County.

"I just want him back. He lived for his children," Cindy Siemensma, the victim's wife, said.

The man was indentified as Sidney Siemensma, 51, an Irvine resident.

His wife said he was a stay-at-home dad to a 10-year-old and 14-year-old.

His death was being investigated as a possible homicide, police said.

After 7 a.m. Tuesday, there was a report of an injured man on the path near the Los Olivos community, the Irvine Police Department said.

When first responders arrived, they found Siemensma dead along the path that runs along the 405 Freeway.

Police said he suffered injuries that led them to believe that he may have been slain.

He was an avid cyclist," his wife said. "He must have been so scared."

Investigators found a bicycle next to Siemensma.

The two bike lanes stretch for miles paralleling the San Diego Freeway, a popular spot for cyclists and runners.

"A lot of joggers use that path. A lot of families go down there, a lot of bike riders," said Nasim Mashhadi.
