Firefighter Injured While Battling Garden Grove House Fire

Firefighters needed 82 minutes Sunday to knock down a third-alarm house fire in Garden Grove and one firefighter was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, authorities said.

The blaze was reported at 11:53 a.m. inside a one-story home in the 11000 block of Rainier Court, according to Garden Grove fire Capt. Thanh Nguyen.

When firefighters from Garden Grove, Anaheim Fire and Rescue, the Orange City Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Authority arrived the house was completely on fire, Nguyen said.

Firefighters were hampered by excess storage in the house, downed powerlines and a backdraft environment.

"An elderly woman was out of her home when the fire began and out of harm's way," Nguyen said.

A firefighter hospitalized for smoke inhalation was listed in stable condition, Nguyen said.

Firefighters also rescued three pets from the fire.

The house was a total loss, with structure damages estimated at $500,000 and $50,000 in damages to its contents.
