Human Remains Found In Long Beach Identified as Those of Missing Man

Human remains found buried last week outside a Long Beach home have been identified as those of a man who went missing in October, authorities said Wednesday.

The remains discovered Thursday in the 500 block of West Eighth Street were those of 32-year-old Zach Kennedy of Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

"A cause of death is still to be determined, and no arrest(s) have been made," according to police.

Police said they received a missing-persons report about Kennedy in October 2017.

"Through relentless follow-up in Kennedy's disappearance, detectives learned that he was last seen at a residence in the 500 block of West Eighth Street, and was possibly buried on the property," police said.

"On May 3 ... detectives in possession of a search warrant began an excavation of the property on West Eighth Street, in the hope of finding Kennedy,'' police said. "Not long after detectives began the excavation, they located what they (believed) to be the remains of a human body buried on the property."

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at (562) 570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
