Homicide Detectives Investigate Death of Infant in Bellflower

Sheriff's detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a female infant Monday in Bellflower, a deputy said.

The child was discovered shortly after 10:35 a.m. in the 10300 block of Alondra Boulevard, Deputy Kimberly Alexander said.

The infant was found in a car seat partially covered by a blanket behind a mortuary, according to the sheriff's department. A mortuary worker cleaning up made the discovery, authorities said.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene, Alexander said.

The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County coroner's office, but there were no visible signs of trauma, Det. Steve Blagg of the LA County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau said.

Detectives were talking to potential family members and were canvassing the area searching for video, Blagg said.

Anyone with information on this child was asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's homicide bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
