Two LAPD Officers Hurt in Crash During Pursuit of Suspected DUI Driver in Hancock Park

Two Los Angeles Police Department officers were hospitalized Thursday morning with injuries they suffered in a crash in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles while backing up other units involved in a pursuit of a suspected drunk driver that began in Hollywood.

Officers from the LAPD's Hollywood Division tried to pull over a suspected DUI driver near Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, but the driver fled and a pursuit began, according to the LAPD.

A unit from the LAPD's Wilshire Division responding to back up other officers involved in the pursuit crashed at Beverly and La Brea boulevards and the two officers in the vehicle were taken to a hospital in unknown condition, the LAPD said. It was unclear if any other vehicles were involved. No other injuries were reported.

Officers lost sight of the suspect vehicle, a black Chevy Volt with Arizona license plates and three people inside, in the area of Wilshire Boulevard and Crescent Drive about 11:45 p.m., police said.

A detailed description of the suspects was not immediately available.
