Suspected Prowler Dies After LAPD Officers Use Bean Bags, Stun Gun

Officers confronted a male suspect after receiving a call in the 4400 block of Towne in South Los Angeles

A suspected prowler died Sunday after a confrontation with Los Angeles police Sunday in South Los Angeles.

Officers originally received a call about a prowler at 12 p.m. and responded to the 4400 block of Towne Avenue, near the intersection of Towne Avenue and East Vernon Avenue per the LAPD Newton Division.

The same source confirmed that officers confronted a male suspect and that some type of force was used between the officers and the suspect. On Monday, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said officers fired bean bag rounds at the man. The department also confirmed a stun gun was used during the altercation.

Soon after, LAFD arrived on the scene and transported the man to USC Medical Center. He later died at the hospital.
