The driver of a car was killed early Thursday in a crash involving two big rigs that led to the closure of the westbound 60 Freeway in Montebello.
The road was closed near Garfield Avenue (map). One lane reopened at about 6 a.m. All lanes reopened at about 6:20 a.m.
The driver, a man in his 30s, died when he crashed into the back of a big rig. His vehicle was then rear-ended by another big rig in the 2:50 a.m. crash.
All westbound lanes were closed for about three hours. Traffic was diverted onto Pomona Boulevard from the Garfield Avenue/Wilcox Avenue exit.
"We are asking motorists to take alternate routes if they're traveling in from the Inland Empire," said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Preciado.
