Blue Line Collides with School Police Vehicle in Downtown LA

A Blue Line train collided with a school police car in downtown LA shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, fire officials said.

The train and the car were both travelling westbound on Washington Boulevard when the police vehicle reportedly tried to make a left turn onto Los Angeles Street, crossing in front of the train, Jose Ubaldo, Metro spokesman, said, citing prelimary details.

First responders used the Jaws of Life to pry the door off the police car to extract the driver, who was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, according to officials in the LAPD Central Traffic Division.

The car's passenger was reportedly uninjured. Three train passengers claimed injuries, mostly moderate, Ubaldo said. At least one of them refused to be transported.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Los Angeles Street and Washington Boulevard.

The train, which was travelling about 35 mph, was en route from Long Beach to the Downtown Los Angeles 7th and Metro station, Ubaldo said.

Metro is operating on a single track while the crash is cleared, creating 20-minute delays, Ubaldo said.
