Crews Battle House Fire in Santa Monica Area

Crews say the blaze started in the basement and spread to the attic

Firefighters battled a house fire early Thursday in the 700 block of Kingman Avenue in the Santa Monica area.

The fire was reported at about 6:45 a.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The flames were burning on the roof of the two-story home.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from inside the structure and on the roof.

Fire officials said the blaze started in the basement and spread to the attic.

Although it's a densely populated neighborhood, the blaze did not spread to nearby homes.

No injuries were reported.
