Child Believed to be Abducted Found Safe in Chula Vista

An 18-month old boy taken by his non-custodial biological father, prompting a statewide Amber Alert late Thursday, has been found safe in Chula Vista.

The Amber Alert was issued just before 11 p.m. to track down the toddler who was believed to be taken without the mother's consent from the Los Angeles area by John Jose hours earlier.

The Los Angeles Police Department said Jose threatened to kill himself.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said at one point the father and child were believed to be at a home on the 3000 block of Bonita Mesa Road in Bonita.

Deputies responded to the home but did not find either, SDSO said.

Overnight, Jose and the toddler were located in the city of Chula Vista, south of San Diego. The boy was taken to Polinsky Children's Center in San Diego.

The Amber Alert was canceled just after 2 a.m.

It was not immediately clear if the father would be facing any charges.
