A small earthquake hit coastal Orange County today, according to a preliminary report from the U.S Geological Survey.

The temblor struck at a depth of 6.8 miles at 2:56 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.5, its epicenter 4 miles east of Newport Beach and 4 miles south- southwest of Irvine, according to the computer-generated report.
Newport Beach police received a couple of calls from residents who said they felt the quake, but no damage has been reported.
One NBC4 Facebook visitor said he felt shaking in the Long Beach area.
