Man Saved After Car Crash Pushes Vehicle Off Malibu Cliff

Rescue crews made a daring recovery Friday after a driver tumbled over a cliff in Malibu following a two-vehicle collision in the midst of a fire weather watch.

The crash occurred on Kanan Dune Road near Via Acero Street about 6:45 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

One vehicle ended up more than 300 feet down the side of Kanan Dune Road. The other vehicle, a van, wound up overturned on its roof after it lost its back tire.

"Unfortunately this happens way too often in the canyons," CHP officer Jeffrey Royal said.

One man inside the car that went off the road was injured and taken to a hospital, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford. No one in the overturned van was hurt, he said.

Officials kept watch on the car to prevent any fires from potentially sparking.
