Manny Machado's Mammoth Home Run Snaps Dodgers 10 Game Home Win Streak in 4-1 Loss

All good things come to an end.

Manny Machado hit a mammoth three-run home run and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Dodgers, 4-1, on Tuesday night, snapping LA's 10-game win streak at Dodger Stadium. 

With runners on first and second, Machado, who was named to third All-Star Game on Tuesday, clobbered a Kenta Maeda curveball into the top row of the left field pavilion to give the Orioles a three-run lead.

The meteoric, 453-foot blast, was Maeda's last pitch and Machado's longest home run out of his 19 total on the season.

"He's an agressive hitter," Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said. "If he [Maeda] had executed the breaking ball he could have got him out. But it ended up hanging and he's one of the better hitters in the game so he made us pay."

Unlike Monday night's come-from-behind victory that saw the Dodgers rally from not one, but two, three-run deficits, the Dodgers started the scoring in the first inning. 

Corey Seager, who was named an All-Star earlier in the day, doubled to extend his Major League-leading hit-streak to 18 games and scored two batters later on an RBI single by Adrian Gonzalez. 

Seager's streak is the longest in the National League this season, and ties him with Bill Sudakis for second place for longest hit-streak by a Dodgers rookie in franchise history. 

"It was one of those things that just motivated me," Seager said before the game. "And, now that you're there, you can kind of celebrate that accomplishment and celebrate all that hard work."

Unfortunately for the boys in blue, Seager's run was the only one they'd score all game as Baltimore scored four unanswered runs the rest of way. 

After a leadoff walk to Mark Trumbo in the top of the second, Maeda allowed back-to-back singles to Matt Wieters and Jonathan Schoop to tie the game. Schoop's single to right field was ruled a fielder's choice as Yasiel Puig threw to second, instead of home, for the force out.

Maeda (7-6) labored through most of the game allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in just four innings, the shortest start of his career.

"From the first inning on it seemed like Kenta was laboring tonight," Roberts said. "They were waiting him out, sitting soft, and that Machado homer was the difference in the game. All night long it was a struggle for Kenta."

After a leadoff single to Adam Jones and a walk to Hyun Soo Kim in the fifth inning, pitching coach, Rick Honeycutt, came to the mound to speak to Maeda. After a few minutes of deliberation, the Dodgers left the Japanese right-hander in the game to pitch to Machado—a move that backfired just seven pitches later. 

"I thought that was going to be a pivotal inning," Roberts said of the meeting on the mound. "One, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page, and two, I wanted to give Petey [Baez] some time because he was going to get the next hitter."

Meanwhile, the ace of the Orioles staff, Chris Tillman was masterful, muzzling the Dodgers offense from the second inning on. 

"We did a good job earlier," said Gonzalez who drove in the Dodgers only run and was 2-for-4 on the night. "He settled in and ran right through us."

Tillman (11-2), has been the Orioles best starting pitcher this season and may have been extra motivated after he was snubbed by the players and managers in the American League by not receiving a invite to the 2016 All-Star Game in San Diego. 

Tillman is tied for second in the AL in wins and has a WHIP of just 1.25 after allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts in seven strong innings. 

"Tillman kept us off balance and limited base runners," Roberts said of the Baltimore right-hander. "We're not going to go out there and score a bunch of runs every night, but we never really threatened."

The Orioles All-Star reliever duo of Brad Brach and Zach Britton easily disposed of the Dodgers in the final two frames, putting an end to the team's 10-game home winning streak.

O's All-Stars Defeat Dodgers: The Baltimore Orioles had five players get selected for the 2016 MLB All-Star Game and each one of them played a hand in the team's 4-1 victory over the Dodgers on Tuesday, snapping LA's 10-game winning streak at home. Mark Trumbo was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Matt Wieters was 2-for-4. Manny Machado had the game-winning three-run home run. Brad Brach got the hold, pitching a scoreless eighth. Zach Britton got the save, pitching a scoreless ninth. Chris Tillman—who is likely to become an All-Star after rotations are released—allowed one run in seven innings for his 11^th win of the season.

3. Say it Ain't So: The Orioles snapped the Dodgers 10-game home winning streak with the victory on Tuesday. It was the longest streak at home since LA won 13-games at Dodger Stadium from April 13 thru May 6, 2009.
