Crowds celebrating Mexico's 2-1 victory Saturday over South Korea in the 2018 FIFA World Cup have left streets in East Los Angeles and Huntington Park, with two men arrested in the latter, authorities said.
A watch commander at the sheriff's East Los Angeles station said there were no arrests and celebrations started winding down at approximately 3 p.m.
Two men were arrested near Santa Fe Avenue and Florence Avenue on suspicion of assault for throwing eggs, Huntington Park police Lt. Patrick Kraut said.
Pedestrian celebrations ended around 2 p.m. and people cruising in cars celebrated until 5 p.m., he said.
Officers from Vernon, Bell and El Monte were released.
Viewing parties for Saturday's game were held across SoCal, including in Long Beach, downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown and the former Olympic Auditorium.
Mexico--poised to advance to the round of 16--will play Sweden on Wednesday at 7 a.m. Pacific time.
