Residents were forced to evacuate an apartment complex while a man was barricaded inside for hours on Wednesday in North Hills.
The standoff began at around 5 p.m. in the 8500 block of Columbus Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department Mission Division. Officers were called in for a possible domestic violence dispute between a man and a woman.
Neighbors heard yelling coming from the apartment. It was unknown if the man was armed, but the woman was taken outside of the apartment. The extent of her injuries was unknown.
SWAT officers waited outside of the complex as the standoff continued through late Wednesday evening. Neighbors were lined up outside on the street and were unable to return to their homes until early Thursday morning.
The man surrendered after midnight and was taken into custody, police said.
