A fire breaks out in Calabasas on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019.

Fire crews quickly surrounded a brush fire on the north side of the 101 Freeway in Calabasas Wednesday, holding the flames at roughly 10 acres amid gusting winds that have first-responders across the Southland on high alert.

The fire just north of the 101 Freeway at Mureau Road and North Mountainview Drive was reported at 10:43 a.m., department spokesman Sean Rios said.

The flames were initially running uphill and threatening structures in Calabasas and Hidden Hills. Due largely to fears of the fire rapidly spreading amid red flag wind conditions, the blaze quickly went to a second alarm.

But shortly after 11 a.m., fire officials said the spread of the fire had been halted at about 10 acres and the second alarm was canceled, although crews were continuing work to completely snuff out the blaze.

The northbound 101 Freeway was briefly halted to accommodate fire crews responding to the area, but the roadway was quickly reopened as crews got the upper hand on the flames.

No evacuations were ordered, and there were no reports of any structural damage or injuries.

The Mureau Fire was one of several wildfires burning in Southern California Wednesday amid some of the strongest Santa Ana winds in a decade.
