Ohio Man Accused of Sex Crime Involving Lancaster Girl He Met on Facebook

The girl told detectives she met the man via Facebook about six months ago

A 43-year-old Ohio man arrested in California is accused of lewd acts involving a 15-year-old Lancaster girl with whom he developed a relationship on Facebook about six months ago.

The man left his home in Westerville, Ohio on Friday and arrived aboard a bus in Lancaster on Sunday -- the same day the girl was reported missing, deputies said. Michael Scheetz was found on Monday -- patrol officers spotted him on a street corner -- and eventually led deputies to the girl, who hospitalized in good condition.

The girl was found under a tree in a field, deputies said.

"They were staying in this dirt field in the desert until he was discovered," said Sgt. Brian Hudson.

A representative from the LA County Sheriff's Department's Special Victims Bureau is expected to provide more information Thursday.

Scheetz was booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed five felony counts against Scheetz, whose bond was set at $100,000, according to jail records.

Both the suspect and victim has been "very cooperative," said Hudson.

Scheetz's next court date was scheduled for Oct. 16.
