Five people were shot Sunday night, including a woman who died, in what police said could be two related shootings at the Imperial Courts public housing project in Watts, police said.
A man and two women were shot at about 8:30 p.m. at 115th Street and Mona Boulevard, said Sgt. Scott Stevens of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Station.
The man was shot in the face but had stable vital signs at a hospital and was expected to survive, Stevens said. One woman was wounded in a hand and another suffered minor wounds from bullet fragments.
The second shooting occurred at 9:20 p.m. a few blocks away at 114th Street and Croesus Avenue, he said.
A woman was shot in the back of the head and was pronounced dead at a hospital, Stevens said. A man was shot in the back and had stable vital signs at a hospital.
The woman was identified Monday by the coroner's office as 29-year-old Samika Griggley.
Besides the close proximity, the description of the attacker in both shootings was the same, leading police to believe the shootings are related, he said. The shootings were not believed to have been gang-related although a motive has not been determined, Stevens said.
Authorities said they plan to review surveillance video Monday. City officials approved a network of security cameras in the housing project, built in the 1940s, about two years ago.
