Anza Brush Fire Spreads To Nearly 500 Acres, 20 Percent Contained

The blaze was sparked by a vehicle fire that spread to surrounding vegetation.

Firefighters have contained 20 percent of a brush fire that broke out Monday morning in east Anza and burned nearly 500 acres.

The blaze was sparked by a vehicle fire that spread to nearby vegetation, said Riverside County Fire Department and Calfire spokeswoman April Newman.

The driver of the vehicle suffered first and second degree burns to 3 percent of his body and three firefighters suffered minor injuries, Newman said. All four people were transported to nearby hospitals.

Evacuations for the area east of Paradise Valley Cafe are still in place and Highway 74 is closed at Highway 371 going into Palm Desert.

As of Tuesday morning, no structures were damaged.
