In 1962, Cathay Bank opened with a single branch in Los Angeles' Chinatown and has been committed to providing a broad spectrum of personal and commercial financial services since. It began as the first bank founded by Chinese-Americans in Southern California, and in recognition of a greater community need, Cathay Bank adopted the motto "An Open Door for All." Cathay Bank rapidly expanded its Southern California presence and today has a branch servicing network that extends from California to Washington, Nevada, Texas, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts. Cathay Bank believes in integrity in everything they do, creating a culture of leadership that inspires, fostering and mentoring exceptional employees, providing extraordinary service to their customers, and effectively meeting the needs of its local communities.

The Cathay Bank Foundation, an affiliate of Cathay Bank, works to raise and administer funds for community-based non-profit organizations in the nine states where Cathay Bank is located with the common goal of enhancing the growth and success of each of these communities. It aims to create opportunities in affordable housing, community and economic development, and education. In Los Angeles, the Foundation has contributed to the City of Los Angeles Hire LA's Youth 2014 and 2015 Program, Centro Latino for Literacy, and Operation Hope.

Cathay Bank's latest community endeavor is to sponsor the holiday initiative: NBC4's The Wishing Tree at Universal CityWalk. Viewers and visitors are invited to pay it forward by submitting a holiday wish for a deserving friend or family member.... And NBC4 may just make that wish come true. The Wishing Tree represents goodwill wishes for all, and as a proud sponsor of this campaign, Cathay Bank aligns itself as a community leader devoted to sharing the holiday spirit. The Wishing Tree with NBC4 is committed to making this holiday season extra special, and with the help of Cathay Bank, wishes can come true for some individuals that deserve it most.

November 27 through December 22, Universal CityWalk visitors and NBC4 viewers can place their wishes for friends and family next to decorative trees adorning Universal CityWalk's "5 Towers" plaza or online at www.NBCLA.com/wishingtree. Wishes will be granted live weeknights from December 9 - 23 during the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. from Universal CityWalk with longtime NBC4 Weathercaster Fritz Coleman.
